20th Century Fox have updated the release dates of several upcoming projects, moving Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant forward to May 2017, dating James Cameron’s Avatar 2 and- frustratingly- pushing Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman sequel back from June to October.
Deadline is reporting today that Prometheus star Noomi Rapace will reprise her role as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott’s follow-up Alien: Covenant despite previous reports that she would not be involved.
20th Century Fox has confirmed that Ridley Scott’s upcoming Prometheus sequel will be titled “Alien: Covenant” and that it will be released in theaters on October 6, 2017, a date it shares with Warner Bros.’ The Jungle Book: Origins.
While on the promotional trail for his new film The Martian, Ridley Scott has revealed what he plans to call the first sequel to his 2012 Alien prequel Prometheus… Alien: Paradise Lost!
District 9 and Elysium helmer Neill Blomkamp made headlines last month when he posted a series of concept art designs for a new film in the 20th Century Fox’s Alien franchise. Although the filmmaker admitted that the designs were unofficial, he hinted that he’d be more than happy to take on such a project. Today, 20th Century Fox confirmed that Blomkamp would indeed direct a new Alien film, clarifying that this is, indeed, a sequel to the original Alien franchise and not the Prometheus sequel currently set for release March 4, 2016.
On the heels of last week’s announcement that 20th Century Fox has set a mystery Ridley Scott film for March 4, 2016 comes confirmation, via TheWrap, that the project in question is a sequel to 2012’s Prometheus (and a prequel to the rest of the Alien franchise).
Ridley Scott’s Prometheus was released last year on June 8 and 20th Century Fox and Scott Free Productions are already moving forward with the currently Untitled Prometheus Sequel–which may as well be called “Prometheus 2” until something better comes along–as they’ve hired Transcendence scribe Jack Paglen to write the screenplay, according to The Wrap.
