There were reports on Friday that Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers, The Other Guys), Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball, We’re the Millers) and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) were the frontrunners to take over the director’s chair for Marvel’s Ant-Man from Edgar Wright. Now The Hollywood Reporter has learnt that McKay has exited talks with Marvel.
Paramount Pictures and Gary Sanchez Productions today announced an unprecedented theatrical release of an all new cut of the hit film “ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES,” starring Will Ferrell, in theatres in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland beginning February 28 for one-week only.
The big new wide release this weekend was the return of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, co-starring Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner, Kristen Wiig, Christina Applegate, Meagan Good and many more. It opened big on Wednesday with $8.1 million including $2.3 million from Tuesday night previews. That amount dropped to $5.1 million on Thursday, and by the weekend, it had lost a bit more business, forcing it to settle for second place behind last week’s #1 movie, Peter Jackson’sThe Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Over the weekend, Anchorman grossed an estimated $26.8 million, which is less than the $28.4 million of the original Anchorman back in the summer of 2004, although that didn’t have a Wednesday opening, nor did it open the weekend before Christmas, which is normally slowed down by people traveling and shopping. Still, it has scored $40 million in its first five days, which is nearly half the gross of the original movie and it should continue to do well through the Christmas holiday.
