David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, as released in cinemas on August 5, was a terrible, terrible film. Warner Bros. are hoping, however, to double down on the success of Batman v Superman’s Blu-Ray “Ultimate Edition” with a so-called “Extended Cut” of Ayer’s film… presumably featuring significantly more footage of Jared Leto’s Joker.
Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Suicide Squad held on to the top spot at the domestic box office, despite a big drop in ticket sales and a strong opening from Sony Pictures‘ Sausage Party.
David Ayer’s supervillain romp is ugly, daft and humourless, setting a new low-bar for comic-book entertainment.
Suicide Squad opened in first place domestically with an estimated $135.1 million from 4,255 theaters, an average of $31,752 per location. The opening marks the biggest ever for the month of August, surpassing Guardians of the Galaxy‘s $94.3 million from 2014.
Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad hits cinemas on Friday August 5.
