CBS has announced that the pilot episode of Supergirl, which premiered last night, opened as the season’s #1 new series premiere in viewers and adults 18-49, according to Nielsen preliminary live.
Hailing from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions (who also produce the hit DC Comics series “Arrow” and “The Flash” for The CW), “Supergirl” is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
Peter Facinelli (The Twilight Saga, “Nurse Jackie”) is moving to National City, joining the cast of the highly-anticipated upcoming CBS/Warner Bros. Television action/drama series “Supergirl” in the recurring role of DC Comics character Maxwell Lord.
Warner Bros. Television and TV Guide Magazine have today revealed that, for the sixth year in a row, they’ll be teaming up on a special Warner Bros.–themed Comic-Con special edition of the magazine. Four collectible covers will feature WBTV/DC Entertainment’s “Arrow” star Stephen Amell, “The Flash” star Grant Gustin, “Gotham” stars Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue, and “Supergirl” herself, Melissa Benoist.

CBS has officially given the greenlight to the first season of “Supergirl,” set to star Melissa Benoist in the title role. The precise number of episodes has not yet been revealed, but the pilot is expected to debut on the network later this year.
The costume for Supergirl was designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costumes for “The Flash” and “Arrow” and whose motion picture credits include Academy Awards for her work on Alice in Wonderland, Memoirs of a Geisha and Chicago, as well as eight additional Oscar nominations for films such as Into the Woods, Snow White and the Huntsman, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Sleepy Hollow, among others.
CBS has found its “Supergirl” in “Glee” alum Melissa Benoist. The hourlong drama pilot was written by Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, and hails from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
