Box Office: THE MARTIAN beats PAN and THE WALK in second weekend

20th Century Fox’s The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon, remained on top of the box office in its second weekend with $37 million, a drop of just 31.9% from its opening weekend. The adaptation of the best-selling book by Andy Weir has already earned $108.7 million domestically. Internationally, the sci-fi film added $56.8 million for an overseas total of $117.8 million and worldwide sum of $226.5 million. It was made for about $108 million.

Robert Zemeckis’ ‘To Walk The Clouds’ retitled ‘The Walk’; teaser poster released

Principal photography has wrapped today on the inaugural film from Tom Rothman’s TriStar Productions, now officially titled The Walk. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film is a true story based on Philippe Petit’s book “To Reach the Clouds,” starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the young dreamer who dared the impossible: an illegal wire walk between the World Trade Center towers.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump) will be teaming with Tom Rothman’s TriStar Productions, who are in the process of acquiring the rights to adapt To Reach the Clouds, the working title for the story of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit, who christened the newly-built World Trade Center back on August 7, 1974 by tight-rope walking in between the two towers on a taut wire cable.
