Disney/Pixar have announced some fantastic news today: Brad Bird’s The Incredibles 2 (our most anticipated movie– ever!) will now arrive in less than 2 years! The film will open a year earlier than previously announced: June 15, 2018!
One of Pixar’s less disappointing sequels, this long-awaited return to the sea has countless moments of enormous charm.
Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day sequel was no match for Pixar’s Finding Dory, which remained in first place with $73m.
Disney•Pixar‘s Finding Dory debuted #1 at the domestic box office this weekend with an estimated $136.2 million from 4,305 theaters, an average of $31,634 per theater. The film marks the biggest animated opening of all-time, surpassing Shrek the Third‘s ($121.6 million), and stands as the second-largest June opening of all-time, trailing only Jurassic World‘s $208.8 million debut last year.
The box office experienced a bump as the Thanksgiving weekend saw three movies gross more than $40 million over the five-day extended weekend, although Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 still dominated over all of them with an additional $75.8 million and $51.6 million over the three-day weekend, down 50% from its opening.
Findng Nemo helmer Andrew Stanton (John Carter) returns to the directors chair for the animated film, which features the voices of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton. Walt Disney Pictures will release the film on June 17, 2016.
Yes, we’re sobbing a little bit right now. Disney has just announced the release dates for 19 movies through the year 2020, including the summer 2017 opening of Pixar’s “Cars 3” and the official release date of our #1 Most Anticipated Movie of All Time: Brad Bird’s “The Incredibles 2″!
