Deadpool director Tim Miller has departed the upcoming sequel to 20th Century Fox/Marvel’s hit action/comedy Deadpool due to reported ‘creative differences’ with star/producer Ryan Reynolds.
Despite three new wide releases, 20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool easily won first place at the box office for its third-straight weekend. The Tim Miller-directed comic book adaptation, starring Ryan Reynolds, added $31.5 million domestically to bring its three-week total to $285.6 million. Internationally, the $58-million budgeted film earned another $40 million for an overseas total of $324.2 million. The movie has now earned an impressive $610 million worldwide.
20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool dominated the worldwide box office for a second-straight weekend, bringing in another $55 million domestically for a North American total of $235.4 million. Deadpool has already surpassed X-Men: Days of Future Past‘s $233.9 million domestic total in just 10 days. Overseas, Deadpool earned $85 million its second weekend for an international total of $256.5 million and an impressive worldwide box office total of $491.9 million!
20th Century Fox‘s long-awaited Deadpool movie earned an estimated $135 million from 3,558 theaters over the three-day portion of the four-day Valentine’s Day/Presidents’ Day holiday weekend. That breaks the previous record for the best opening weekend for the month of February, which was set by Fifty Shades of Grey last year with $85.1 million. It will also break Fifty Shades of Grey‘s four-day Presidents’ Day holiday weekend record of $93 million, as 20th Century Fox is projecting $150 million for the four days domestically.
An eager Ryan Reynolds aims to atone for past mistakes in this obnoxiously meta comic-book caper.
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
Ryan Reynolds stars as the title character alongside T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat and Ed Skrein as Ajax. The film will also feature the mutant Colossus, though Daniel Cudmore has confirmed he will not appear as the character.
