MOONLIGHT’s Best Picture Oscar Withdrawn After Reports Of Vote Rigging

This was posted for April Fool’s Day 2017. It is, of course, fake news.

In a shocking further development of the Academy Awards’ Best Picture mixup scandal, Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight has had its win withdrawn after a Variety investigation into vote rigging at this year’s awards. The Best Picture award has been granted to Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, which was originally announced as the winner by Warren Beatty on the night.

Variety’s story reports that Moonlight‘s distributors and producers were involved in a large conspiracy involving multiple ballots per voter, and the film actually received only 31% of the total category vote, significantly less than La La Land‘s 42%. Chazelle’s film has been restored the trophy, making La La Land the winner of the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress awards.

Stay tuned for any developments in this shocking story.
