ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season 5 could partially be a prequel

TVLine reports that the long-rumoured fifth season of Arrested Development, which they claim will shoot in June for a 17-episode run, will solve the issue of cast scheduling by dedicating a significant portion of the season to flashbacks featuring younger actors.

The Bluth family cast- Jason Bateman, David Cross, Will Arnett, Portia deRossi, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Michael Cera, Tony Hale and Alia Shawkat- are almost all currently occupied with various film and TV work (Arnett alone has LEGO Batman, Bojack Horseman, Flaked and A Series of Unfortunate Events this year), and utilising them less by showing recast younger versions of the characters (Seth Rogen and Kristen Wiig already played young Oscar and Lucille in Season 4) would allow a new run of episodes to be produced faster. That said, it’s the original cast’s hilarious dynamic that makes the show so brilliant. Such a conundrum….

Arrested Development Season 5 will stream on Netflix… hopefully sometime soon.
