Our first look at Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 arrived today, featuring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling. It features some stunning early footage from the 2017 release. Let’s analyse it a bit.
The teaser begins with the neon-drenched city we’re familiar with from Ridley Scott’s original film. We hear the voice of Rick Deckard (Ford) from that film.
This is slightly reminiscent of Amy Adams, walking towards the glass wall in Villeneuve’s Arrival.
This next shot is similarly framed to a moment in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman— we noticed this immediately.
As one Twitter user joked, “La La Land 2049 is gonna be spectacular”. Gosling’s character in the new musical is a jazz pianist.
We hear Deckard’s voice once more. But this time, he’s actually here…Yes! Our first look at Harrison Ford’s Old Deckard. Maybe not as exciting as Old Indy or Old Han Solo (he isn’t wearing a recognisable costume, for one), but it’s always great to see Ford back in action.
Finally, one last look at Gosling’s character roaming the streets, Deckard style.
