Creators Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta took to Twitter today to make a special announcement: the long-awaited final season of HBO’s The Leftovers will- as we suspected- arrive in April 2017, airing in the springtime Sunday night slot previously occupied by Game of Thrones.
The Leftovers‘ second season ended this time last year, and the third and final run of 8 episodes (hey– Newsroom only got 6!) has been shooting in Australia over the past few months.
Sunday nights on HBO have recently been occupied by Westworld, while the two miniseries The Young Pope and Big Little Lies will screen from January through March.
Game of Thrones typically airs from April to June, but filming of Season 7 was delayed due to location weather conditions, so the fantasy will return next summer.
The Leftovers Season 3 will star Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Margaret Qualley, Chris Zylka, Janel Moloney, Regina King, Kevin Carroll, Jovan Adepo, Jasmin Savoy-Brown and Scott Glenn,.
