Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children opened in first place at the domestic box office with a $28.5m weekend. It earned an additional $36.5m from 59 international markets for a total global weekend of $65m. The film, budgeted at approximately $110m, stars Eva Green and Samuel L. Jackson.
Lionsgate’s Deepwater Horizon, which reportedly cost $156m to make, debuted in second place with a disappointing $20.6m domestically and a further $3.7m from IMAX screens worldwide. Peter Berg’s disaster drama stars Mark Wahlberg.
In third place was The Magnificent Seven, which added $15.7m to its $61.6m total over the weekend. The western remake cost $90m.
Warner Bros.’ Storks took fourth place with $13.8m, while the same studio’s Sully rounded out the Top 5 with $8.4m added to its $105.4m total.
