BuzzHub is shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of actor Anton Yelchin, who was killed in an accident today aged just 27.
Yelchin, best known for playing Chekov in the recent Star Trek reboots, was found dead early this Sunday morning after being pinned between his car and a brick postbox at his home in San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles.
Yelchin’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, subsequently confirmed the actor’s death.
Yelchin, an only child, was born in Russia. His parents were professional figure skaters who moved the family to the United States when he was six months old.
Yelchin begin his acting career appearing in shows such as ER, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. In 2006, he received critical acclaim for his performance in crime drama Alpha Dog and starred as the title character in 2007’s Charlie Bartlett.
He made his Star Trek debut in the franchise’s 2009 film, where he played Pavel Chekhov. He reprised the role in 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness and again in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, due for release next month. We expect the film will be dedicated in Yelchin’s memory.
A quiet, unassuming, underappreciated screen talent not yet at the peak of his career, Yelchin leaves behind a brief but brilliant body of work. He will be mourned and missed.
