Aaron Sorkin, Cate Blanchett board Lucille Ball biopic

It’s being reported that Oscar winner Cate Blanchett is now attached to star in an authorized biopic of actress Lucille Ball, who became one of America’s very first television sweethearts in the ’50s from her show “I Love Lucy” with husband Desi Arnaz. The biopic is being written by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) for Sony’s Escape Artists, and it will chronicle the 20-year marriage between Lucy and Desi, whom she had two children with before they divorced in 1960.

Those two children, Lucy Arnaz Jr. and Desi Arnaz Jr., will be producing the movie with Escape Artists’ Jenna Block, although there’s no director in place as of yet.

Blanchett can next be seen in Todd Haynes’ Carol, while Sorkin scripted the upcoming Steve Jobs film.
